General description

An immunoglobulin has two heavy chains and two light chains connected by disulfide bond.(5) It is a glycoprotein.IgG is a major class of immunoglobulin.(6) Goat IgG has two subclasses- IgG1 and IgG2.(7)
Second antibodies (secondary antibodies) are antibodies raised against other antibodies, typically from another species, called primary antibodies. Primary antibodies are generated with and bind to specific antigens to create antigen antibody complexes which may be detected in a variety of immunochemical and immunohistochemical configurations involving soluble or insoluble signaling molecules. The immunodetection system depends upon the binding of a signal competent secondary antibody to a primary antibody:antigen complex.
The suitability of any secondary antibody to a specific immunodetection application is dependent upon its signal development system configuration. Signal development systems are based upon the chemical conjugation of a signal mediator to the secondary antibody. Major secondary antibody signal systems are color (chromogenic), chemiluminescence or fluorescence based and involve the use of enzymes or high affinity binary systems such as biotin:avidin.

Specificity

Antiserum is determined to be immunospecific for goat IgG by immunoelectrophoresis (IEP), prior to conjugation, versus goat IgG and normal goat serum.

Immunogen

Antiserum is produced in rabbit using purified goat IgG as the immunogen

Application

Anti-Goat IgG (whole molecule)−Alkaline Phosphatase antibody produced in rabbit has been used in western blotting.
Anti-Goat IgG (whole molecule)-Alkaline Phosphatase antibody produced in rabbit has been used in immunoblotting and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
Immunocytochemistry was performed on cells fixed in 4% paraformaldhyde for 15 minutes using alkaline phosphatase-conjugated rabbit anti-goat IgG diluted 1:1000 in TBS as the secondary antibody.

Biochem/physiol Actions

IgG antibody subtype is the most abundant serum immunoglobulins of the immune system. It is secreted by B cells and is found in blood and extracellular fluids and provides protection from infections caused by bacteria, fungi and viruses. Maternal IgG is transferred to the fetus through the placenta that is vital for immune defense of the neonate against infections.
Immunoglobulin G (IgG) mainly helps in immune defense.(5) IgG participates in hypersensitivity type II and type III.
