General description

Petroleum ether is a low boiling point fraction having a boiling point in the range of 30-50°C. Extracts of leaves of Litchi chinensis Gaertn. (Sapindaceae) have been prepared in petroleum ether and were evaluated for antiinflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic activities.[1]

Application

Petroleum ether may be used in the absorption chromatographic purification of organic compounds.[2]
