General description
Phosphatidic acid (PA) is a diacyl-glycerophospholipid that consists of a glycerol and an alcohol moiety, having two fatty acids and a phosphate group esterified at positions 1, 2, and 3, respectively.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Phosphatidic acid (PA) is a signaling molecule that is synthesized in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). It is transported to the mitochondrial outer membrane to stimulate mitofusin (Mfn)-mediated fusion. PA is a major intermediate metabolite involved in the synthesis of membrane glycerophospholipids, which include phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylserine (PS), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), and phosphatidylserine (PS).

Membrane organelles comprise both proteins and lipids. Remodeling of these membrane structures is controlled by interactions between specific proteins and lipids. Mitochondrial structure and function depend on regulated fusion and the division of both the outer and inner membranes. Here
