General description

Sulfur is a chalcogen (ore forming element). It is present in abundant quantities in marine and freshwater sediments. It exists in various forms such as pyrite, acid volatile sulfides, elemental sulfur, sulfates and organic sulfur. Quantitative estimation of reduced inorganic sulfur compounds in modern sediments and shales by a chromium reduction technique has been described. Elemental sulfur is employed for the synthesis of arsenic monosulfide and benzothiazole.

Application

Sulfur has been employed as a reactant in the preparation of Cu-doped iron sulfides.
