General description

Iodomethane is an alkyl halide commonly employed as methylating agent.

Application

Iodomethane has been used as a methylating agent to synthesize:
  • N,N-dodecyl,methyl-polyethylenimine (PEI), a microbicidal polymer with potential application in microbicidal coatings.
  • Methylated-pyridine derivatives that can be used as RNA-specific fluorescent probes for live cell imaging.
