General description

α-Naphtylamine and sulfanilic acid are used for detection of nitrate reduction by bacteria. Organisms containing nitrate reductase reduce nitrate to nitrite, which forms a diazonium salt with sulfanilic acid and reacts with α-naphtylamine to form a red azo dye.

ML-970 (AS-I-145; NSC 716970) is an indolecarboxamide synthesized as a less toxic analog of CC-1065 and duocarmycin, a natural product that binds the A-T-rich DNA minor groove and alkylates DNA. The NCI60 screening showed that ML-970 had potent cytotoxic activity

Aromatic amino acids strongly promote cross-β amyloid formation; whether the amyloidogenicity of aromatic residues is due to high hydrophobicity and β-sheet propensity or formation of stabilizing π-π interactions has been debated. To clarify the role of aromatic residues on amyloid

Helicobacter pylori has developed antimicrobial resistance to virtually all current antibiotics. Thus, there is a pressing need to develop new anti-H. pylori therapies. We recently described a novel oligo-acyl-lysyl (OAK) antimicrobial peptidomimetic, C(12)K-2β(12), that shows potent in vitro bactericidal activity

1,8-Bis(dimethylamino)naphthalene (DMAN), a classical 'proton sponge', was functionalized on silica particles as a novel solid-phase extraction (SPE) adsorbent (DMAN@silica) for extracting perfluoroalkyl sulfonates (PFSs). High reproducibility and excellent extraction capability for PFSs were obtained in a wide pH range (3.0~8.5).

Vibrios are motile, curved or comma-shaped bacilli and have a single polar flagella with sheet proteins. They are often found in open water, freshwater and saltwater.
