Application

2-Phospho-L-ascorbic acid trisodium salt has been used as medium supplement in Dulbecco′s Modified Eagle Medium (DMEM) for adipose-derived stem cells, human mesenchymal stem cells and osteoblast cells.

Biochem/physiol Actions

L-Ascorbic acid 2-phosphate (AA2P) is used in biocatalytic dephosphorylation for electric power generation and electrochemical detection assays. L-Ascorbic acid 2-phosphate may be used in cell differentiation and tissue engineering applications. Asc-2P is used in studies of gene repression, such as the repression of dihydrotestosterone-induced dickkopf-1 expression.

In vitro expanded cell populations can contribute to bioengineered tooth formation but only as cells that respond to tooth-inductive signals. Since the success of whole tooth bioengineering is predicated on the availability of large numbers of cells, in vitro cell
