General description

Zinc perchlorate hexahydrate is a hexahydrate salt of zinc widely used as an oxidation reagent and catalyst in various organic transformations. It also finds application in the field of rechargeable batteries.

Application

Zinc perchlorate hexahydrate can be used as a catalyst:
  • For acylation of electron-deficient phenols, sterically hindered alcohols and amines.
  • For the synthesis of 2-hydroxy sulfides by the opening of epoxide rings with thiols.
  • For solvent‐free condensation of carboxylic acids with alcohols.
It can also be used as:
  • An electrolyte for aqueous Zinc batteries.
  • A precursor for the synthesis of highly fluorescent ZnSe quantumdots.
