General description

IgM antibodies are present as pentamers in the serum and are produced in response to antigens.IgM is a highly conserved antibody in vertebrates and is expressed early during immune response.

Specificity

IgM, Kappa immunoglobulin is (mouse IgM isotype) is derived from the TEPC 183-SY hybridoma, produced by the fusion of mouse NS1 myeloma and TEPC 183 mouse tumor line. TEPC 183 tumor line that produces mouse IgM, Kappa, is pristane-induced plasmacytoma.

Application

Identity and purity of the immunoglobulin is established by HPLC.

Biochem/physiol Actions

IgM plays a key role in the engulfing of apoptotic cells. A reduction in serum IgM levels leads to increased autoimmune response and higher risk for infections. IgM displays polyreactive and autoreactive functionality. It plays a key role in tissue homeostasis by mediating clearance of tissue based molecules. IgM has sites for N-linked glycosylation, with sugars namely, mannose, galactose, N-acetyl glucosamine and sialic acid.

Physical form

Supplied as a solution in 0.05M Tris, 0.5M NaCl, pH 8.0, containing 0.02% sodium azide as a preservative.

Storage and Stability

For continuous use, store at 2-8°C for up to one month. For extended storage, freeze in working aliquots. Repeated freezing and thawing is not recommended. If slight turbidity occurs upon prolonged storage, clarify the solution by centrifugation before use. Working dilution samples should be discarded if not used within 12 hours.
