Cell Line Description

A derivative of HeLa, the first aneuploid, epithelial-like line derived from human tissue and maintained by serial subculture. Identified as a contaminant in many subsequently derived lines, due to poor culture techniques. Susceptible to poliovirus 1 and Ad 3.

Application

Tumourigenicity and virus studies: poliovirus 1 and Ad 3

Culture Medium

EMEM (EBSS) + 2mM Glutamine + 1% Non Essential Amino Acids (NEAA) + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).

Subculture Routine

Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:3 to 1:10 i.e. seeding at 1-3x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37°C.
