General description
The presence of Enterococci, especially E. faecalis, E. faecium, E. durans and E. hirae, serves as an indicator for fecal contamination. The Enterococci-Agar medium is provided with a unique chromogenic substrate that is acted on by various Enterococci species to produce red colonies that can easily be identified. Non-Enterococci species produce blue/violet, turquoise or even colorless colonies which can easily be distinguished from the red. The medium is also provided with sodium azide and ox bile which inhibits the growth of any accompanying microbial flora.
Application
Chromocult® Enterococci-Agar can be used to isolate, differentiate and enumerate Enterococci present in various foodstuff, water or animal feed. It can also be used as for determination of fecal contamination in foodstuff, water or animal feed
