General description

Calcium carbonate is an inorganic compound that is sparingly soluble in water but highly soluble in dilute acids. It plays a crucial role in material science, particularly in the development of solar cells, batteries, and supercapacitors. In solar cell, it acts as a precursor material for the perovskite layer, enhancing the stability and performance of perovskite solar cells. Additionally, calcium carbonate is utilized in electrode production, serving as a conductive additive in cathode or anode materials, thus improving overall battery performance and durability.

Application

Calcium carbonate can be used as:
  • A template, graphitization catalyst, and activating agent in the green synthesis of porous graphitic carbons from coal tar pitch for high-performance lithium-ion batteries.
  • A raw material to synthesize calcium titanate (CaTiO3) perovskite material through sintering with titanium oxide (TiO2) by the sol-gel method. Calcium titanate can be used to create large-scale, low-cost, and sustainable solar cells.
  • A catalyst supports for improving the performance and durability of fuel cells, thereby contributing to the advancement of clean energy technologies.

An organic matrix consisting of a protein-polysaccharide complex is generally accepted as an important medium for the calcification process. While the role this "calcified organic matrix" plays in the calcification process has long been appreciated, the complex mixture of proteins
