Application

4-Bromo-calcium Ionophore A23187 has been used for the activation of Ca2+/calmodulin kinase II (CaMKII) in HeLa cell line. It has also been used as a calcium mobilizer to investigate its effect on superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) aggregates in VSC 4.1 cells.
Nonfluorescent Ca2+ ionophore that can be used to calibrate the quantitation of cytoplasmic free Ca2+ with fluorescent probes.

Biochem/physiol Actions

4-Bromo-calcium Ionophore A23187 is a modulator of apoptosis. It inhibits apoptosis in a concentration dependent manner in neutrophils which are aging in vitro and increases the intracellular Ca2+ levels.
