Application

The effect of exposure of sertraline hydrochloride was studied in chronically prepared ovine fetus. It was used in glucocorticoid function assay to study the effect of antidepressants on glucocorticoid receptor function in humans.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Sertraline suppresses platelet function and exhibits antiplatelet and endothelium protective functions. It relieves depression and improves the quality of life in patients with cardiovascular disorders. It can also be prescribed to treat depression in Parkinson′s disease.
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, antidepressant.

Postpartum depression affects many individuals after parturition, and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are often used as the first-line treatment; however, both SSRIs and lactation are independently associated with bone loss due to the role of serotonin in bone remodeling.

One-third of cancers activate endogenous synthesis of serine/glycine, and can become addicted to this pathway to sustain proliferation and survival. Mechanisms driving this metabolic rewiring remain largely unknown. NKX2-1 overexpressing and NKX2-1 knockdown/knockout T-cell leukaemia and lung cancer cell line
