Cell Line Origin

Mouse BALB/c testis sertoli cell

Cell Line Description

From primary culture of sertoli cell enriched preparations from normal testes of a 11-13 day old BALB/c nu/+ mice. Cells respond to FSH but not LH; Plasminogen activator secretion is stimulated by FSH and also retinoic acid. Note: only distributed frozen.

Culture Medium

Ham′s F12 + DMEM (1:1) + 2mM Glutamine + 5% Horse Serum (HS) + 2.5% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).

Subculture Routine

Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:20 to 1:200 i.e. seeding at 1x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37°C. Cells resuscitated from frozen stock should be split 1:3 at the first passage and thereafter as above.
