General description

A Certified Spiking Solution® for use in therapeutic drug monitoring analyses by HPLC or LCMS. N-Desethylamiodarone is the primary, active metabolite of amiodarone, an antiarrhythmic agent marketed as Pacerone®, Cordarone®, Aratac, and Atlansil and monitored by clinical labs to ensure patients remain within the drugs therapeutic range.

Application

  • Impact on Amiodarone Absorption: A study examining the effects of probiotics on drug pharmacokinetics demonstrated that E. coli Nissle 1917 alters the absorption of amiodarone in rats, which suggests implications for N-Desethylamiodarone hydrochloride, a metabolite of amiodarone, in similar biochemical studies. This provides valuable insights for research into the metabolic pathways and interactions of amiodarone derivatives (Matuskova et al., 2014).

Detecting metabolites and parent compound within a cell type is now a priority for pharmaceutical development. In this context, three-dimensional secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) imaging was used to investigate the cellular uptake of the antiarrhythmic agent amiodarone, a phospholipidosis-inducing
