General description

MEC or chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 28 (CCL28) is a secreted CC chemokine expressed primarily by epithelial cells of the bronchioles, salivary gland, mammary gland and colon. MEC contains six cysteines including the four highly conserved cysteine residues present in CC chemokines. Recombinant murine MEC is a 12.6kDa protein containing 111 amino acid residues.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 28 (CCL28) or MEC signals through the CCR10 receptor and chemoattracts resting CD4, CD8 T-cells, IgA-secreting plasma cells and eosinophils. It has been shown to exhibit antimicrobial activity against bacteria and fungi.

Physical form

Lyophilized from 10 mM NaCitrate, pH 4.0.

Reconstitution

Centrifuge the vial prior to opening. Reconstitute in water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/ml. Do not vortex. This solution can be stored at 2-8°C for up to 1 week. For extended storage, it is recommended to further dilute in a buffer containing a carrier protein (example 0.1% BSA) and store in working aliquots at -20°C to -80°C.

Mucosae-associated epithelial chemokine (MEC) is a novel chemokine whose mRNA is most abundant in salivary gland, with strong expression in other mucosal sites, including colon, trachea, and mammary gland. MEC is constitutively expressed by epithelial cells; MEC mRNA is detected
