General description

Ponceau S (C.l. 27195) is an anionic, very hydrophilic disazo dye. It is also known as fast ponceau 2B.

Application

Ponceau S is widely used to stain proteins on gel electropherograms. It is a suitable stain for proteins adsorbed onto nitrocellulose membranes. It also has applications in botanical staining manuals as a stain for sieve plate elements.
