General description

(3-Aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES) is an aminosilane that is majorly utilized in the chemical modification of a variety of surfaces such as alumina and silica. It can act as an adhesion promoter between the polymer and the substrate material. It can also be used in the immobilization of surface molecules. The attachment of APTES molecules with the atoms present on the surface happens through chemisorption which results in the formation of a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) on the substrate.[1][2]

Application

APTES can be used in a variety of applications such as an anti-corrosive coating,[3] surface treatment for biological applications,[4] and capping of surface atoms for diagnostic applications.[5]

Questions

1–4 of 4 Questions
  1. How to coat the product APTES (741442) on a Si wafer surface?

    1 answer
    1. To coat APTES (741442) on a Si wafer surface:
      1. Prepare a 1.6% APTES solution in toluene.
      2. Soak the Si wafer in the solution for 2.5 hours.
      3. Rinse the wafer using ethanol and water three times.
It's important to note that no initiator is needed. Varying the concentration and soaking time can result in different thicknesses of the APTES layer, but a layer that is too thick may exfoliate quickly.

  2. What is the appropiate septum/cover reference to close this bottle? Cannot find it in your cathalogue.

    1 answer
    1. This product is packaged in amber glass bottles. The closure is a polypropylene screw cap with PTFE liner. Replacing the cap with a septum is not recommended. See below for images of the bottle and cap.
