Mueller Hinton Broth is used for determining minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs). Mueller Hinton medium is recommended by FDA, World Health Organization, and NCCLS for testing the most encountered aerobic and facultative anaerobic bacteria in food and clinical material. The medium shows good batch-to-batch reproducibility, it is low in sulfonamide, trimethoprim, and tetracycline inhibitors and yields satisfactory growth of most non-fastidious pathogens.
Application
Mueller Hinton broth is primarily used to determine the MIC (minimum inhibitory concentration) for several antimicrobial agents. It can also be used to cultivate fastidious organisms like Meningococcus and Gonococcus
Preparation Note
Dissolve 21 g in 1 litre of distilled water. Sterilize by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes.
Footnote
We offer two media types: the superior granulated GranuCult® and the cost-efficient powdered NutriSelect® culture media, depending on your needs. The designations basic, plus, or prime are added to indicate the quality control level, from basic quality control to standard QC plus to prime for full regulatory compliance.

The antimicrobial susceptibility testing was conducted on 174 single isolates from poultry farms in Serbia and it was determined that seven Salmonella spp. were multidrug resistant. Sixteen serotypes were detected, but only serotype Infantis confirmed reduced susceptibility to colistin. Seven

Dps, a DNA-binding protein from starved cells in Escherichia coli, is part of the bacterial defense system that protects DNA against various cellular stresses. Our lab previously demonstrated that a novel antimicrobial peptide, WRWYCR, enhances acid-induced killing of enterohemorrhagic Escherichia

Magainin 2 and PGLa are antimicrobial peptides found together in frog skin secretions. When added as a mixture they show an order of magnitude increase in antibacterial activity and in model membrane permeation assays. Here we demonstrate that both peptides

Skin-colonizing gram-positive bacteria produce wall teichoic acids (WTAs) or related glycopolymers for unclear reasons. Using a WTA-deficient Staphylococcus aureus mutant, we demonstrated that WTA confers resistance to antimicrobial fatty acids from human sebaceous glands by preventing fatty acid binding. Thus
