General description

Polymethacrylate-based microparticles are a size standard, ideal to identify the particle size distribution (PSD) profile of test samples.
The particle size of 4 μm is measured using Coulter Multisizer.

Application

Used to qualify and check particle size equipment.
Also used to:
  • form self-assembled colloid structures for studying fluid dynamics of colloid mobility near a solid surface
  • fabricate polyelectrolyte-modified beads as an alternate option for conventional pretreatment process of electroless plating
  • validate microfluidic device for density- and size-based microparticle separation

Features and Benefits

  • suitable for routine instrument calibration checks, testing and corrections
  • traceable to Community Bureau of Reference (BCR) standards
  • available in 5 mL pack size as a neat sample

Analysis Note

The exact values for particle size and standard deviation are determined for each lot and may be found on the certificate of analysis. These values are determined with an accuracy of 0.01 μm (Coulter Multisizer). Polymethacrylate based particles have a narrow size distribution and spherical shape. They are stable at temperatures of up to 100 °C Density is 1.22 g/cm3. The surface is negatively charged. Good biocompatibility and reduced nonspecific protein binding are characteristic.
