General description

Anhydrous ethyl methyl carbonate (EMC) is a clear, colorless liquid with a sweet, ether-like odor. It is a highly polar solvent with a moderate boiling point (101 °C) and relatively low vapor pressure, making it suitable for use in a wide range of chemical reactions and processes. EMC is an excellent solvent for many organic compounds including cellulose, ester, and amides, and it can dissolve a variety of inorganic compounds as well, including many electrolytic salts.

Application

Alkyl carbonates find applications as solvents for lithium ion battery electrolytes and the use of high quality battery grade electrolytes having extremely low water (<10 ppm) and acid (<10 ppm) contents are critical for achieving high electrochemical performance.
