General description

Natural product derived from plant source.
Rhodomyrtone is an acylphloroglucinol compound present in Rhodomyrtus tomentosa.[1]

Application

Rhodomyrtone has been used as a positive control for the identification of rhodomyrtone in Rhodomyrtus tomentosa crude extract by thin-layer chromatography.[2]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Rhodomyrtone belongs to a novel compound class,[3] shows anti-bacterial action against many Gram-positive bacteria (Enterococcus, Bacillus, Staphylococcus, and Streptococcus species) and other pathogenic bacteria.[4] It is known to have greater selectivity for bacterial over mammalian membrane lipids. Rhodomyrtone acts on several cellular processes.[3]
