General description

Quintozene is a pentachloronitrobenzene (PCNB) fungicide that is primarily used to control “snow mold” on golf courses.

Application

Quintozene may be used as an internal standard for the determination of endocrine disrupter compounds (EDCs) in fish using modified QuEChERS and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry in tandem (GC–MS/MS).

The reductive transformation of pentachloronitrobenzene (PCNB), an organochlorine fungicide, was investigated with a mixed, methanogenic culture developed from a contaminated estuarine sediment. Batch assays performed with this enrichment culture resulted in the biotransformation of PCNB to pentachloroaniline (PCA), which was

Chlorinated pesticides can contain impurities of dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs), and their precursors, as a result of various manufacturing processes and conditions.
