General description

1-palmitoyl-2-hydroxy-sn-glycero-3-phospho-(1′-rac-glycerol) or LPG is a 16 carbon lipid with a phosphate headgroup and hydrocarbon tail.[1] It is negatively charged and has a critical micelle concentration of 0.6 mM.[2]

Application

16:0 Lyso PG has been used in the synthesis of acetonide-protected pyrene PG.[3] It may be used for the elution of cytochrome b558 in ion exchange column purification.[4] It may also be used for the solubilisation of eubacterium proton pump protein.[1]

Biochem/physiol Actions

1-palmitoyl-2-hydroxy-sn-glycero-3-phospho-(1′-rac-glycerol) is often used in solubilization and purification of transmembrane proteins.[5] It has been used in the melanosomal protein, Pmel17 aggregation studies.[2]
