General description
Glucosyl stigmasterol or stigmasterol glucoside is a biologically active compound distributed in various plant species including P. urinaria. It has a steroid backbone structure similar to testosterone. Glucosyl stigmasterol is a prime sterol component of plant cell walls and membranes.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Glucosyl stigmasterol from Plectranthus asirensis has medicinal value. It has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory functionality and acts as an antagonist to the enzyme 5α-reductase.
