General description

Cholesteryl palmitate is a cholesteryl ester. 16:0 cholesteryl-d7 ester is the deuterated form of cholesteryl palmitate or 16:0 cholesteryl ester.

Application

16:0 cholesteryl-d7 ester has been used:
  • in plasma sample preparation for tandem mass spectrometry analysis (MS/MS)
  • as an internal standard in mass spectrometry for quantification of nerve lipids from mice
  • as an internal standard in time-of-flight mass spectrometry (TOFMS) for the quantification of serum extracellular vesicles (EVs) lipids
  • as an external calibrator and internal spiking standard in tandem mass spectroscopy measurements
  • in liposome preparation for retinyl ester hydrolase (REH) and cholesteryl esterase activity assay

Biochem/physiol Actions

Cholesteryl palmitate is associated with atherosclerotic plaque. Deuterated cholesteryl palmitate in used in reconstituting high-density lipoprotein (HDL). An elevated levels of the ratio of cholesteryl oleate to cholesteryl palmitate is implicated with apoptotic cell death in the atherosclerotic lesions.
