General description

Multi walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs, CNTs) were prepared by chemical vapor deposition (CVD). In chemical vapor deposition (CVD), a volatile precursor undergoes thermal decomposition at elevated temperatures to form a solid deposit on a substrate. 1 The diameter of the tube ranges between 110-170nm and the length is between 5-9μm. The multiwalled nanotubes are stable in inert atmosphere upto a temperature of 3697oC.

Application

Carbon nanotube, multi-walled (MWNT) belongs to the class of carbonaceous materials with excellent physiochemical, thermo-mechanical and electrochemical properties. This material can be used in a variety of sustainable energy applications such as solar cells, photocatalysis, biosensor, gas sensor, supercapacitor and as a filler that acts as a reinforcement to improve the mechanical property of composites.[1][2][3][4][5][6]
Toxic and immunological effects of carbon nanotubes on human colorectal cancer cell line (Caco-2), the human breast adenocarcinoma cell line(MCF-7)[7], Calu-3 cells from human lung adenocarcinoma and serous cells of proximal bronchial airways was investigated.[8][9] These multiwalled carbon nanotubes were used to design a 3D, free standing porous carbon structure. The self-supporting structures could find potential uses in energy storage, supercapacitors, photovoltaic cells, field emission devices, sensors and high performance catalysts.[10]Polystyrene/MWNTs nanocomposites have been fabricated and studied for its electrical and optical properties.[11] Preparation of platinum/MWNTs/cobaltite nanocomposites has also been reported.[12]

Articles

Carbon nanotubes are materials that possess remarkable properties and offer extraordinary possibilities.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have received much attention since their discovery in 1991 by Sumio lijima1 due to their excellent mechanical, electrical, and optical properties.

A nanocomposite is typically defined as a mixture between a host material (e.g., polymer matrix) and nanofillers with at least one dimension of less than 100 nm.

Graphene's unique properties spark interdisciplinary interest; its honeycomb structure offers electrical, optical, and mechanical marvels.

Questions

1–2 of 2 Questions
  1. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.
