General description

4-Methoxybenzyl alcohol is commonly used as a reagent to protect hydroxyl groups on alcohols, and phenols. 4-Methoxybenzyl alcohol on condensation with the silanol groups of fumed silica nanoparticles yields modified silica nanoparticles. It undergoes catalytic photooxidation by flavin-zinc(II)-cyclen complex to yield the corresponding benzaldehyde.

Application

4-Methoxybenzyl alcohol was used to study the photocatalytic oxidation of 4-methoxybenzyl alcohol to p-anisaldehyde.

Flavin-zinc(II)-cyclen 10 contains a covalently linked substrate binding site (zinc(II)-cyclen) and a chromophore unit (flavin). Upon irradiation, compound 10 effectively oxidizes 4-methoxybenzyl alcohol (11-OCH3) to the corresponding benzaldehyde both in water and in acetonitrile. In the presence of air, the

The knowledge of photochemical kinetics in colloidal systems is important in understanding environmental photochemistry on dispersed solid surfaces. As model materials for the chemically sorbed organic compounds present in natural environments, modified silica nanoparticles (NPs) were obtained here by condensation
