General description

Canonical SMILES: CC=CC1=CC=C(C=C1)OC.[O-]S(=O)[O-].[Na+]

Application

Polyanetholesulfonic acid sodium salt:
  • has been used as a component in BACTEC plus aerobic/F medium or blood culture media to decrease the barrier for bacterial growth
  • has been used to inhibit the activity of classical pathway (CP) and alternative pathway (AP)
  • may be used in the preparation of bifunctional/polymeric composite gel beads to remove cationic dyes

Biochem/physiol Actions

Polyanetholesulfonic acid sodium salt is a polymeric phosphor. It can recognize ferric ion (Fe3+) effectively. Sodium polyanethole sulfonate (SPS) is used in commercial blood culture bottles as an anticoagulant. It can prevent the humoral and cellular elements that might interfere with the growth of bacteria. SPS may influence the complement system. It can block phagocytosis and leukocyte functions.
