General description

Osteocalcin (OC/OCN) is a bone-building protein. This γ-carboxylated protein is made up of 49 amino acids and is synthesized by osteoblasts, odontoblasts and hypertrophic chondrocytes. The bone γ-carboxyglutamate protein (BGLAP), that produces OCN is located on human chromosome 1q22.
This ELISA antibody pair detects human Osteocalcin. Other species are not determined.

Application

For research use only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures.
Please refer to the attached Protocolfor details.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Osteocalcin (OC/ OCN) plays a major role in the bone remodeling cycle, affecting bone mineralization. It is considered as a marker of bone formation. OCN guards against the progression of diabetes and the metabolic syndrome.
