General description

Phenanthrene can be synthesized, via a multi-step synthesis process, using Haworth method involving, naphthalene and succinic anhydride as the starting materials.[1] It can undergo chlorination in acetic acid to obtain a mixture of cis- and trans-9,10-dichloro-9,10-dihydrophenanthrenes as the major products.[1]
