General description

Birds, reptiles and amphibians express IgY antibodies that are functionally equivalent to IgG. Anti-Chicken IgY (IgG) (whole molecule)-FITC antibody is specific for IgY of chicken. Rabbit Anti- Chicken IgY (IgG) is conjugated to fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC). Free FITC is removed by gel filtration.
Chicken IgY is made of two heavy (H) and two light (L) chains. Its molecular weight is about ~180 kDa.

Specificity

Binds chicken IgY (IgG). Anti-Chicken IgY (IgG) (whole molecule)-FITC antibody is specific for chicken IgY (IgG).

Immunogen

Purified chicken IgY (IgG)

Application

Anti-Chicken IgY (IgG) (whole molecule)-FITC antibody has been used in immunofluorescence.
Anti-Chicken IgY (IgG) (whole molecule)-FITC antibody may be used for immunofluorescence using human peripheral blood lymphocytes at a working antibody dilution of 1:320. For immunohistochemistry a working antibody dilution of 1:320 may be used. A dilution of 1:1000 was used for EP receptor staining of murine keratinocyte cell line 308 using primary antibodies generated in chicken. The antibody was also used for immune electron microscopy labeling of porcine nerve samples.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Chicken IgY is the major antibody found in chicken serum. Chickens generate a comparatively enhanced antibody response to mammalian antigenic proteins. These immunoglobulins do not bind to Fc receptors present in mammals and bacteria, and also do not interact with rheumatoid factors. Thus chicken antibodies are useful analytical tools for various research applications .
IgY plays a major role in defense mechanism against systemic infections. It also possesses the ability to initiate anaphylactic reactions.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.
