Cell Line Description
Derived from a human squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the tongue from a 55-year-old male. SCC-4 cells have been reported to form colonies in semi-solid medium, and are not induced to differentiate by anchorage deprivation. Growth is enhanced by use of a feeder layer of 3T3 swiss cells.
Culture Medium
DMEM:HAMS F12 (1:1) + 2 mM Glutamine + 10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS) + 0.4 μg/ml hydrocortisone
Subculture Routine
Split confluent cultures 1:3 to 1:4, i.e., seeding at 3-5 x 10,000 cells/cm2 using trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37°C
