Cell Line Origin
Human cervix carcinoma
Cell Line Description
Derived from the parent HeLa cell line. The cells have been adapted to grow in suspension (spinner) culture and have the same virus susceptibility as the parent line. Very useful in the clonal analysis of mammalian cell populations relating to chromosomal variation, cell nutrition and plaque forming ability. The cells should be handled under laboratory containment level 2.
Application
HeLa S3 has been used to study the cytotoxicity of dinuclear titanium-salan complexes. It has also been used to perform in vitro genotoxicity tests (comet and micronucleus) to study the effects of occupational exposure to carcinogens on sewage workers.
