No, 70% alcohol (product 65350-85) should not be used as a disinfectant. If the product were pure 70% ethanol, then perhaps it could be used as a disinfectant. However, this particular 70% alcohol is actually a reagent grade alcohol, referred to as Specially Denatured 3A or SD3A. The composition is approximately 63-64% ethanol, and it also contains about 4% each of isopropyl alcohol and methanol. It's important to note that methanol is a poison and is readily absorbed through the skin. The body converts the methanol to formaldehyde, and each year numerous people worldwide die from methanol poisoning. Instead of using Reagent Alcohol, it would be best to use either 70% pure ethanol or 70% pure isopropyl alcohol.
