General description

The list of Phosphatidylcholine products offered by Avanti is designed to provide compounds having a variety of physical properties. Products available include short chain (C3-C8 are water soluble and hygroscopic), saturated, multi-unsaturated and mixed acid PC′s. All of the products are purified by HPLC, and special precautions are taken to protect the products for oxidization and hydrolysis.
The mucosal layer of the colon has phosphatidylcholine (PC) as a vital constituent.

Application

20:0 PC has been used in collision cross section (CCS) calibration mixture for lipid identification.
It may be used:
  • as a component in giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs) for a two-photon fluorescence microscopy study
  • to prepare small unilamellar vesicles (SUVs) to study the effect of hydrophobic mismatch on gramicidin conformation and organization
  • as a component in giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs) to study its interaction with Crotalus atrox-secreted phospholipase A2 (sPLA2)

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylcholine (PC) may participate in the signaling of neuronal differentiation. It can serve as a surfactant to block the penetrance of bacteria by generating a hydrophobic surface.

Packaging

5 mL Clear Glass Sealed Ampule (850368C-25mg)

We describe the interaction of Crotalus atrox-secreted phospholipase A2 (sPLA2) with giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs) composed of single and binary phospholipid mixtures visualized through two-photon excitation fluorescent microscopy. The GUV lipid compositions that we examined included 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-phosphatidylcholine, 1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DPPC), and

The matching of hydrophobic lengths of integral membrane proteins and the surrounding lipid bilayer is an important factor that influences both structure and function of integral membrane proteins. The ion channel gramicidin is known to be uniquely sensitive to membrane
