General description

8mol% Yttria doped ceria may be prepared by carbonate coprecipitation technique. Yttria doped ceria exihibits high ionic conductivity, low activation energy and small grain boundary resistance. The effect of microstructure on the electrolytic properties was investigated in detail.
Cerium(IV) oxide-yttria doped (YDC-10) is an electrolytic material that is used as an alternative to zirconia-based electrolytes. Its properties include high ionic conductivity (0.01 S cm−1), electronic conductivity (3 S cm−1), enhanced electrode reactions, and high oxygen surface exchange coefficient.
We are committed to bringing you Greener Alternative Products, which adhere to one or more of The 12 Principles of Greener Chemistry. This product has been enhanced for energy efficiency. Click here for more details.

Application

They are promising ceramic electrolytes for solid oxide fuel cells operating at low temperatures of 500-700°C (IT-SOFC). Doped ceria interlayers in between bulk yttria-stabilized zirconia electrolyte further enhance the performance of SOFCs.
YDC-10 can be used as an electrolyte in the fabrication of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). A thin film of YDC-10 (~17.5 nm) effectively reduces the cathode/interfacial energy by 0.1 eV and increases the exchange current density by a factor of 4. YDC-10 can be operated with a temperature range of 300° - 500°C.
