Description

General description

Pyridoxal is a derivative of vitamin B₆. Vitamin B₆ derivatives contain a core pyridine ring. Pyridoxal consists of an aldehyde group at pyridine′s 4′ position. Pyridoxal is a water-soluble vitamin.

Application

Biochem/physiol Actions

Vitamin B₆ derivatives are initially oxidized to pyridoxal. It is then phosphorylated to pyridoxal 5′- phosphate (P5P). Pyridoxal 5′- phosphate is the circulatory form of vitamin B₆.
