General description

Called the “master gland” because it controls many other endocrine glands, the pituitary secretes several key hormones that play important roles in the regulation of metabolism, growth, and reproduction. Piuitary hormones are responsible for the stimulation of the adrenal gland (ACTH), thyroid gland (TSH), ovaries and testes (FSH, LH), as well as blood pressure and the amount of water excreted by the kidneys. Through its connection with the pituitary, the hypothalamus modulates endocrine function by detecting hormone levels.

The MILLIPLEX® Human Pituitary Panel 1 is a 7-plex kit to be used for the simultaneous measurement of any or all of the following analytes in human serum, plasma or cell/tissue culture samples: ACTH, AGRP, CNTF, FSH, GH, LH, and TSH. This kit uses a 96-well format, contains a lyophilized standard cocktail, two internal assay quality controls and can measure up to 38 samples in duplicate.

The Luminex® xMAP® platform uses a magnetic bead immunoassay format for ideal speed and sensitivity to quantitate multiple analytes simultaneously, dramatically improving productivity while conserving valuable sample volume.

Panel Type: Endocrine

Specificity

Cross Reactivty
There was no or negligible cross-reactivity between the antibodies for an analyte and any of the other analytes in this panel.
Cross-reactivity between the antibodies and any of the other analytes in this panel is non-detectable or negligible.

Application

  • Analytes: ACTH, Agouti-Related Protein (AGRP), CNTF, FSH, GH, LH, TSH
  • Recommended Sample Type: Human serum, plasma, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), tissue/cell lysates and supernatants Recommended Sample Dilution: 25 μL per well of undiluted serum or plasma. Cell/tissue culture samples may be run neat or appropriately diluted in control media
  • Assay Run Time: Overnight (16-18 hr) at 2-8°C
  • Research Category: Endocrine
  • Research Subcategory: Metabolism

Our aims were to investigate the presence of pituitary glycoprotein hormones in preterm and donor milk, and to examine the effects of Holder pasteurization and refrigeration on the levels of these hormones. We measured follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH)
