Metabolite of vitamin D₃ via a single cytochrome P450-mediated hydroxylation. Further metabolized to 1α, 25-dihydroxy vitamin D by a second cytochrome P450-mediated hydroxylation. A major circulating metabolite of vitamin D₃.
