General description

Phosphatidic acid (PA), a phospholipid is a minor component of the phospholipid pool. It is an important constituent of cell membranes.

Application

18:0-18:1 PA (1-stearoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphate (sodium salt)) may be used as a phosphatidic acid (PA) standard to identify the corresponding radiolabeled PA on the thin-layer chromatography (TLC). It may be also used in vesicles for experimental validation in order to identify novel phospholipids capable of inhibiting cellular membrane transportation by (ATP)-binding cassette P-glycoprotein (P-gp).

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidic acid (PA) serves as a lipid messenger and a signaling lipid.

We have previously reported the participation of mitogen-activated protein, Rho, and phosphoinositide-3 (PI3) kinases in separate pathways in serotonin (5-HT)-induced proliferation of pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (SMCs). In this study, we investigated the possible participation of phospholipase D (PLD)
