General description

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a small DNA virus belonging to the hepadnavirus family and is believed to the causative agent of type B hepatitis. The Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) is a protein antigen produced by HBV. This antigen is the earliest indicator of acute hepatitis B and frequently identifies infected people before symptoms appear.
