Application

Our rare earth doped upconversion nanoparticles possess inorganic fluoride host lattices and can be easily excited with near-infra-red (NIR: 980 nm) light source. These Cd-free nanoparticles exhibit characteristic emission peak and are well suited for applications as luminescent biological labels and as spectral converters for increasing solar cell efficiency cell.

A new method is presented for preparing gram amounts of very small core/shell upconversion nanocrystals without additional codoping of the particles. First, ca. 5 nm β-NaYF4:Yb,Er core particles are formed by the reaction of sodium oleate, rare-earth oleate, and ammonium fluoride
