General description

Sodium phosphate dibasic heptahydrate is a hydrated form of disodium phosphate (DSP) or disodium hydrogen orthophosphate. DSP is widely used as a pH regulator and saline laxative.

Application

A mixture of sodium phosphate dibasic heptahydrate, potassium phosphate monobasic, and NaCl in deionized water is used for the preparation of phosphate-buffered saline (PBS, pH 7.4). PBS is used as a buffer solution in biological research to keep the pH constant.
