General description
Free-flowing micron-sized powder
Functionality by FITR: OH, C=O, and C=C
Starbon™ is mesoporous carbon synthesized by the carbonization of expanded mesoporous starch at high temperatures. Amylose and amylopectin polymer chains in starch self assemble to form large mesoporous structures. Starbons exhibit tunable surface energies and high volume. It can be readily functionalized. Mesoporous carbon may have a hydrophilic pore surface and a BET surface area of 300 m2/g. The mean particle size of this graphitized carbon is 5 μm.
We are committed to bringing you Greener Alternative Products, which adhere to one or more of The 12 Principles of Greener Chemistry. This product has been enhanced for energy efficiency. Find details here.
Application
Carbon, mesoporous can be used in the esterification of oleic acid and lauric acid for the formation of biofuels. It forms a composite with nanoscale zero valent iron particles for the removal of arsenic from groundwater.
It was used for a comparative study of the toxicity effects of various carbon nanoparticles on C57BL/6 mice.
