Gene Information

human ... TIMP1(7076)

General description

The TIMP1 (TIMP metallopeptidase inhibitor 1) gene is mapped to human chromosome Xp11.3.
Tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase 1 (TIMP1) is a member of TIMPs protein family. It is widely expressed in most of the human tissues and body fluids. TIMP1 is a wedge shaped protein with five β-strands, a central helical region representing the interface of the two domains and a C-terminal β-structure.

Immunogen

The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human TIMP1.

Immunogen Range: 61-110

Application

Anti-TIMP1 antibody produced in rabbit has been used in western blotting.

Biochem/physiol Actions

TIMP1 (TIMP metallopeptidase inhibitor 1) mediates the communication between tumor cells and cancer associated fibroblasts and contributes to tumor progression in condition such as hepatocellular carcinoma. The encoded protein is a cytokine tissue inhibitor. Timp1 regulates the activity of matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) especially MMP-8 and -9. Imbalance in Timp1 levels lowers the fibrotic material in the extracellular matrix and results in inflammation. This might contribute to the pathogenesis of myocardial fibrosis, atherosclerosis and acute coronary syndrome. Timp1 level serves as an important biomarker in the development of sepsis.
