General description

6-Acetylmorphine, also known as 6-monoacetylmorphine or 6-MAM, is an active metabolite of heroin and biomarker for heroin usage. This Certified Spiking Solution® is suitable for use as a starting material in calibrators and controls for GC/MS or LC/MS methods in forensic analysis, clinical toxicology, urine drug testing, or pain prescription monitoring. It is relatively difficult to detect in urine samples as it has a short detection window. Within minutes after heroin administration (intravenously), 6-acetylmorphine appears in the saliva and is found at a higher concentration than in plasma.

Application

  • Forensic toxicology reference: 6-Acetylmorphine is used as a key analytical reference material in forensic toxicology to identify heroin use in morphine-positive urine specimens, aiding in the differentiation between pharmaceutical and illicit opioid consumption (Vikingsson et al., 2024).

  • Opiate research chemical: This compound serves as a high-purity standard for opioid research, facilitating the study of opioid metabolism and the development of new analytical techniques in bioanalytical studies (Liu et al., 2024).
