General description
Quick press die set is based on the principle of toggle action to apply very high pressure with minimal force.
The Quick Press is a hand press for making transparent KBr pellets (discs) with a diameter of 7 mm. The KBr pellet is formed using only the pressure of a firm handshake applied steadily to the handle.
KBr Pellet Technique:
1. KBr powder/sample matrix is poured into the hole in the SS collar into which the shorter of the two anvils has first been inserted.
2. The longer second anvil is then inserted in the collar and the assembly is placed in the press handle.
3. Pressure is applied to the sample by squeezing the handle.
4. When the anvils are removed from the collar, the KBr pellet is retained inside of the collar.
5. The collar is placed in the optional V-shaped sample holder that will fit standard 2 × 3in. slide mount of any spectrometer.
6. After analysis, the pellet is rinsed out of the collar with water or ejected and saved.
- Anvil faces are optically polished
