General description

Trimethoxy(octyl)silane (TMOS) is an organosilane that is used as a coupling and surface modifying agent to enhance the water contact angle and lower the surface energy.
Trimethoxy(octyl)silane is an organosilane. The effect of hydrolyzed silane on the penetration of water into a lamellar liquid crystal was studied.

Application

Trimethoxy(octyl)silane (TMOS) is used to functionalize the surface of silica to promote the adhesion with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) for use in the fabrication of acrylate nanocomposite based photonic devices. It can be coated on silica fiber based epoxy to improve the hydrophobic characteristics and to protect the surface from corrosion.
Trimethoxy(octyl)silane was used for the silanization of silica nanoparticles. Surface modification of hydrophobic (T805) titania particles with the silane was reported.

Usually, nanoscale zero-valent iron (NZVI) cannot float on water because of high density and hydrophilic surface. Herein, alkyltrimethoxysilanes with different carbon chain lengths (C1, C8 and C16) were used as "water-repellent legs" to graft onto NZVI, enduing NZVI with hydrophobic

In the present work, highly sensitive Raman detection of nitenpyram using superhydrophobic filter paper as substrates is introduced. The process is simple, and efficient.
